A One-Page Site for Solo Work: Tutor, Nail Tech, Four-Table Cafe
A tutor, a nail tech, a four-table cafe: you do not need a 40-page portal. You need one fast page you own - because Instagram, Telegram, and Maps are rented, and strangers check you before they pay.
The usual objection is size. “I am one person. I answer in Telegram. A website is for companies.” That was a fair delay in 2018. In 2026 it is how a solo business leaks the customers who do not already know their name. Algorithms cut the feed. Strangers google you before they send a deposit. Ads into a profile evaporate. A site is not a status page. For the smallest shop it is the only address that still belongs to you when an account is limited.
I already wrote what a site buys an SMB, and why Instagram is not a home. This piece is narrower: a tutor, a nail technician, a four-table cafe, a plumber with a van. What “having a website” means for you in 2026 - and what you can skip.
1. Small does not mean “Instagram is enough”
Size changes the site, not the need. A bank needs a portal. You need a page that answers who, what, how much, where, and what to tap next. Without that, every new person must write “price?” and wait. The ones who are ready tonight go to whoever already published it.
- The feed is a handshake for people who already follow you. Search and Maps are for people with a problem today.
- A profile that is “only on Instagram” reads as a hobby or a risk when you ask for a card, a home visit, or a 2 000 UAH deposit.
- Corporate and public buyers often cannot pay a contractor with no legal page. Even a one-person ФОП loses that ticket without a URL.
2. Why 2026 is harsher than “we’ll post more”
Posting more does not buy back reach that the platform took. Three things got worse for a tiny business that lives only in a feed.
- Rented land: Instagram, TikTok, Telegram, Maps, marketplaces. Useful. Also a switch you do not own. An account limit, a fee hike, or a buried listing turns off the only door.
- Intent left the feed. “Kids dentist [city]”, “cake tomorrow”, “accountant for ФОП” go to Google and Maps. AI answers quote indexed pages, not a Direct thread. A service page can bring calls for years. A Reel dies in 48 hours.
- Paid traffic to a profile is a leak. The click must land on an offer, a price, and a button - Telegram, WhatsApp, book, or pay - not on last week’s Reels.
3. A chat is not a storefront
Telegram and WhatsApp are the right inbox in many countries. They are a bad catalog. Hours, what is included, address, portfolio, and “from” prices live in threads and die there. You answer the same five questions while a client is in the chair. The night inquiry waits until morning - or books the person who already had a page.
- The page answers at 22:00. That is not “enterprise.” That is a baker, a tutor, and a salon competing with whoever replied first.
- Put the messenger button on the page. Do not make the page a brochure with no next step. Own the facts; keep the chat for the exception.
4. What the smallest useful site actually is
Not a shop with 200 SKUs. Not a blog you will not write. One mobile page that loads in about two seconds.
- Who you are, the city, and one clear offer - not five vague services.
- Price or “from”, and what is included. Ambiguity is a Direct tax you pay forever.
- Proof: six photos of real work, a short menu, the room. Not a stock hero image.
- Hours, address or service area, how to get there. Then one action: messenger, booking, or a deposit.
5. What you can skip in month one
A constructor theme that takes eight seconds on a phone is worse than no site: it confirms the doubt. A 40-page brochure nobody updates is the other failure. Ship the thin version.
- Not in v1: a custom blog, a loyalty program, five languages, an app. Those are other products.
- Yes in v1: your domain, HTTPS, Google Business pointing at the page, analytics, a form or chat that lands somewhere you actually read.
- If you already sell in Direct, the site replaces the FAQ paste, not the relationship. Keep Telegram. Stop making it the only place a stranger can learn how to buy.
Conclusion: you are not too small - you are paying rent on the only door
If you skip a site to “save money,” the bill is still there: night leads that went elsewhere, the same FAQ in chat, ads that leak, and a stranger who chose the competitor with a clear page. A one-page site on your domain is the smallest fix that changes that. Social stays the handshake. The site is what you put on the card, the ad, and Google Business.
I build these pages as a senior web engineer: fast, mobile-first, with a real next step - form, calendar, or a payment bot - not a template that takes eight seconds. If you run a one-person or tiny team business and the only door is a chat, write via the form. We will scope the thinnest site that can take a real request this month.
