How does an AI project start?

Questions about AI solutions
Chatbot or agent?
A chatbot produces text. An agent takes actions. If the job is “book a slot” or “send an invoice”, it is an agent with a tool list and a human on the rejects — not a chat widget.
Do you train a model from scratch?
Almost never for an SMB first version. RAG on your corpus plus a small tool list is cheaper and safer. Training is for when retrieval is not enough — we decide that after the first loop.
Does the data leave the company?
We pick the provider and the boundary together: what is indexed, what is logged, what never goes to a third party. That list is part of the scope, not a privacy policy after launch.
